A big, warm log cabin where a mother moose sleeps under the window, rainbows arch over the deck, and a family can trade the ordinary for a month — or a whole season — in the mountains.
Ask about a family seasonWe have two girls, six and eight, and this cabin is where we come to be a family without the noise of everyday life. They've watched a baby moose and its mother bed down beneath their window, fed a wild bird from the balcony, and spent whole afternoons chasing the little snow-melt stream that runs through the backyard in early June before it dries up for the summer.
It's a real home — lived-in, cozy, and full of the small things that make children feel safe and grown-ups exhale. When we can't be here, we open it to another family who wants the same thing: unhurried time together, somewhere genuinely wild and beautiful, with everything you actually need close at hand.
Four bedrooms across 4,233 square feet, including bunk rooms the kids will claim within minutes, a great room big enough for board-game nights, and a lower-level family room for when everyone needs their own corner.
Deer and moose most days, a fox at the balcony, a marmot sunning on the rocks, and gray jays that will take a snack from a child's open hand. It's the kind of nature documentary you live inside of — and far better than any screen.
Reliable, fast internet means one parent can keep working while the mountain does the entertaining — so a "season away" doesn't have to mean time off the clock.
Downtown Breckenridge runs half- and full-day kids' camps all summer — adventure, art, sports and nature — so children have their own days while parents have theirs. The same drive gets you to the Ice Arena, Main Street, restaurants, festivals and, in winter, the ski lifts.
The very end of the road, with two extra lots of our own and the National Forest behind — a wild, fenceless yard of wildflowers, a seasonal snow-melt stream, and no through-traffic to worry about.
A Yamaha piano for after-dinner songs, a wood-burning fireplace, a deck for sunsets, and a steam-and-spa bath for the grown-ups once the kids are down.
Total privacy, sunsets that turn the whole sky pink, the spa tub under the window, and nothing on the schedule. For couples who want more than a weekend — a full month to actually exhale, reconnect, and remember what unhurried feels like.
Hike as a family to Blue Lakes, McCullough Gulch and Mohawk Lakes, or take the quiet locals' path behind the house into the National Forest. The Quandary Peak trailhead is five minutes by car for the ambitious. In winter it's snowshoeing, sledding and cross-country skiing out the door — and the road stays reliably plowed, so getting out is never a battle.
Then it's 18 minutes to Breckenridge for camps, ice skating, dinner on Main Street, free summer concerts at the Riverwalk Center, and all the mountain-town fun — before coming home to the quiet and the stars. See the full area guide →
